Live streaming a concert by saxophonist KJ Sax

The second full-evening show by saxophonist KJ Sax, at Radlická kulturní sportovna in Prague. We streamed it live and recorded it at the same time.

What makes it hard. At a concert, sound is what counts. A camera with a built-in microphone does a band more harm than no video at all - it picks up the room, not the mix the audience hears. And the programme isn’t a neat list of numbers: guests take turns and the running order often only gets settled on the night.

What we build for it. Several cameras covering the whole stage as well as close-ups of the instrument, and sound taken from the sound engineer, not from the camera. That’s the difference between a recording you can listen to and one you can only sit through.
